The size and temperature of your planets, just as your energy and nitrogen production, depend on their position compared to the sun.

The more a planet is close to the sun, the more energy is produced bu satellites, but the less nitrogen is produced by your mines. Then, obviously, if your planet is far away from the sun, nitrogen mines will be more productive but solar satllites will produce less energy.
